As President of the McKinley
Elementary School PTO, I would like to welcome all new families entering
McKinley this year and welcome back all returning families! I hope everyone had
a great summer and are ready to delve into another exciting year! By the end of
the year new friends will be made and many worthwhile experiences will be had
by all.
PTO's are formed to enhance our children's years in school, and without a PTO to raise funds and sponsor events, many children would be missing out on what many of us consider to be quintessential school experiences. You will quickly discover that our PTO is not just about fundraising. Our PTO makes possible school assemblies, free family fun nights, printing of the directory, field trips, educational support, classroom tutors, school clubs, garden, and many other benefits to our students. We have some new and exciting events planned for this school year! We will be eliminating some of our fundraisers such as CherryDale, Gertrude Hawke and the Magazine Drive. Instead, we will be participating in our first Race for Education on Friday, November 11th to help raise funds for the PTO and McKinley. This is a walk/jog-a-thon where students walk or jog ¼ mile as many times as they can in one hour. Students can raise funds by asking friends and family to sponsor them. This will be a fun activity for both students and faculty and we hope that all families participate! You will receive more information in the following weeks. We are planning a Science Night, Career Night, Reading Night, and new after school enrichment programs(please see flyer in packet). We will still have our tried and true favorites…McKingo, Build-a-Scarecrow Night, Art Showcase, Talent Show and the return of International Night and the McKinley Spring Fair! The PTO is a volunteer organization and its success depends on participation from our families. McKinley Elementary has an excellent group of committed volunteers, and I am confident that we will increase our volunteer base this year. Being involved is one way to further your child's education, learn more about the school and meet other parents in the McKinley community. We kindly ask for your support through volunteering and supporting our activities. We can always use help of an hour here or two hours there. Please take a moment and look at the “McKinley Needs You” flyer in this packet and sign up for an event that peaks your interest. The PTO is only as successful as its volunteers. Dedicated parents who share their time with the school community are sending the best message to their children. Children take pride in seeing their parents in school, and in turn, you are letting them know you care about their education and school experience. There are many exciting events planned for the 2011-2012 school year and we hope that you are able to participate in some or all of them. On behalf of the entire McKinley Elementary PTO Board, I invite you join us throughout the school year.
